Batik Technique Learned Amongst Intellectual in Austria
A total amount of 43 people from academic community, clothing designer, textile developers, fashion bloggers of Austria active to seriously research the technique and process of batik.
"They learn and practice the techniques of batik in a workshop held at the Institute for Art and Technology, the University of Applied Arts of Vienna," said Vienna Retnosari, staff functions Pensosbud Indonesia embassy of Vienna, informed AFP on Sunday (27/3/2016).
The participants at the event obtained a concept regarding the techniques of batik-making production, distinctions in traditional typical batik and modern techniques, in addition to the benefits of using mangroves as organic dyes for batik-making.
Formerly, they also got the history and also philosophy of batik product by curator Welt Museum of Vienna Dr. Jani Kuhnt Saptodewo, followed by a guided creating batik technique Lulut Sri Yuliani, a manufacturer of batik imported from Surabaya.
Austrian intellectuals were enthusiastically working on the process of batik from creating patterns, the making use of resin wax, coloring, drying out and fixation or dyeing gradually.
Vice President of the University of Applied Arts of Vienna Department of Textile and Technology Innovation Prof. Barbara Putz Plecko revealed her admiration for the method of using organic dyes from mangroves shown by Lulut Sri Yuliani.
"Organic dyeing technique used is extremely really unique," stated Prof. Plecko.
According to Prof. Plecko, the textile industry in Austria is currently using chemical dyes and therefore the organic coloring techniques exploiting underdeveloped.
Several participants academics, one of which textiles and fashion historian Dr. Silke Gepert from the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, which states it intends to cooperate with academics in Indonesia.
"For research study in the field of textiles and fashion. I would like to know how|exactly how religious beliefs impacts fashion in Indonesia," added Dr. Gepert.
While the participants from the fashion blogger Ingrid Zalneva impressed with hair batik techniques, created in the fashion culture in Indonesia.
In the workshop introduced the traditional canting (stationery for batik ) and digital canting.
A hand drawn batik workshop is given remarks by the head of the Institute of Conservation, University of Applied Arts of Vienna Prof. Mag. Dr. Gabriela Krist, and officially opened by the Deputy Chief of Indonesia Missions (Wakeppri) Febrian Ruddyard.
Febrian said that since 2009 batik has been listed as one of the World's Cultural Heritage Objects category identified by UNESCO

"This workshop was organized in an effort to promote Indonesian culture, philosophical values and the lives of the people of Indonesia," Febrian.
Workshop result of collaboration between the Embassy/ Indonesian Permanent Rep in Vienna with the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia was also to boost the image of Indonesia as well as public interest in Austria for a trip to Indonesia.
"In order to sustain the achievement of nationwide targets in the field of tourism," claimed Febrian.
